A striking hand-carved “Tree of Life” sculpture by a Makonde artisan, made from a single piece of African Blackwood (mpingo). This 8 1/2 -inch tall 3 1/2 inch wide carving features seven interconnected figures symbolising unity, ancestry, and strength within the family. Each figure is intricately detailed, emerging organically from the form of a tree, with rich golden tones.
This is a traditional design from the Makonde people of Tanzania and Mozambique—an important cultural group known for their expressive, symbolic wood sculpture. The Makonde Tree of Life represents generational support and spiritual continuity, and these pieces are often carved for ceremonial or commemorative purposes.
