A rare vintage FAT BOY porcelain character jug, made by AVON WARE, ENGLAND.
Stamp to base shows that it was made in England between 1947 and 1968.
Size is 4.5in high.
- The Character: The design is based on Joe, “The Fat Boy”, a notoriously somnolent, food-loving character from Charles Dickens’ famous 1837 novel, The Pickwick Papers.
- Visual Appearance: It is sculpted as the head and shoulders of a young, round-faced boy, traditionally depicted with wide blue eyes, rosy cheeks, brown hair, and a distinct blue collar.
- Function: Originally designed as a milk or cream jug, modern collectors frequently repurpose them as kitschy indoor planters or decorative pencil holders
