BATTLE OF THE SOMME RELIC (1205)

£150.00

BATTLE OF THE SOMME RELIC. This looks like bullets that have exploded there are 48 of them all connected as if from a gun belt.it has a 1914 penny attached to it and it is mounted on apiece of mahogany 29 1/2 inch long and 4 inch wide. On the back of the mahogany is a paper label with French writing on it and has a rubber stamp on it and the date 19 07 86 which i assume it was the year this relic was found. Also on the back are 2 red wax seals they look very official. Relics from the Battle of the Somme include military equipment and fragments such as artillery shell fragments, bullets, barbed wire, and grenades, as well as personal items like helmets, identity discs, and mess kits. These artifacts are often discovered during the “iron harvest” as farmers plow their fields .A very heavy interesting display piece another reminder we must never forget
